Page Titled

Web pages have titles that describe topic or purpose.

In plain language

Every page needs a clear title that says what it's about — the one that shows up in the browser tab and in search results.

Why it matters

People often have many tabs open, or navigate by browsing a list of pages with a screen reader. A clear title lets them tell pages apart and know where they are, without having to open each one to check.

In practice

Fails this criterion

A page's title just says "Untitled" or "Page 1," giving no clue what it's about.

Meets this criterion

A banking site shows a page title like "Bank XYZ — Accounts for Alex Smith," clearly describing exactly what's on that page.

Test it yourself

Look at the browser tab (or window title) for each page on the site. Does it clearly describe what that specific page is about, or is it generic or missing?
